Presentation of the project and press conference at the III Week of the Forest

On October 11, the presentation of the LIFE MixForChange project was held in the framework of the III Week of the Forest in Sant Celoni. The day, to which the media were convened, served to present the problems and objectives of the project, actions carried out until now and future actions in oaks, holm-oaks, chestnut trees and pine groves in the Montnegre-Corredor area, Montseny, Bellmunt, Collsacabra and Ripollès. The program can be consulted here.

Míriam Piqué, head of the Multifunctional Forest Management Program of the Forest Sciences Centre of Catalonia (CTFC) and coordinator of the project, opened the workshop. During her speech, Piqué highlighted the problems and objectives of the project: to implement innovative management strategies for climate change adaptation of mixed subhumid Mediterranean forests on the one hand and to strengthen the bio-economy linked to these forests by another.

Jaime Coello and Lídia Guitart, forestry engineers of the CTFC and the Association of Owners of the Montnegre i Corredor respectively, conducted the following talks. Coello talked about individual tree forestry as an opportunity to improve economic and environmental results of forest management in Catalonia while Guitart presented the first actions carried out in Montnegre-Corredor within the framework of the project.
