First specialisation course in climate change adaptation strategies in mixed sub-Mediterranean forests (Project Action E4.2)

On November 27th we conducted the first specialisation course in climate change adaptation strategies in mixed sub-Mediterranean forests (Project Action E4.2). The participants were 20 students from the forestry degree of University of Lleida. The course was done in the protected area of Poblet (Tarragona). Mr Xavier Buqueras, forest engineer of this protected area, explained the history of Poblet forest and the evolution of the different management schemes over time. Afterwards, staff from the Forest Ownership Centre of Catalonia (CPF) explained the main aims of LIFE MixForChange project and the climate change adaptation silviculture implemented. The participants did an itinerary identifying trees with high ecological interest, identifying and classifying valuable broadleaves following the protocol prepared in the project and did a tree marking exercise with other approaches not related to adaptive silviculture. This exercise was done in the Outreach Site (marteloscope) of Castellfollit (Tarragona), installed in a mixed forest of scots pine and holm oak.

The program of the course is available in this link (in Spanish).
