Tuesday 11 December took place in Ribes of Freser (Girona) the Second Meeting of the Committee of Experts of the project, titled: “Timber quality and timber from valuable broadleaves: current state and future expectations”. The main aim of the event was to discuss the criteria on how to evaluate the current and expected future value of the timber of various broadleaved species targeted during the project. Besides, the CTFC presented the first version of the “Protocol for identification and visual classification of standing timber quality of oak, ash, maple, cherry and chestnut”, developed within the project in collaboration with CPF.
During the morning we visited a demonstrative stand, followed by an indoor discussion. The participation consisted in 16 people, including representatives of the timber industry (sawmills and cabinetmakers), specialists in wood technology and in forest management.
The protocol of identification and visual classification of timber quality will be published during 2019.
