To evaluate the effects of MixForChange silviculture on ecological variables we have installed 26 permanent plots. These plots have been monitored before the application of the silvicultural treatments (2017-18) and on a regular basis until the summer of 2021. Half of these plots correspond to intervened areas and the other half are control plots, that is, in which no treatments have been performed.
The main variables measured are the following: detailed characterization of each tree in the plot, cover and height of different vegetation components (herbaceous, shrub, felling debris…), characterization of dead wood and understory; spontaneous regeneration monitoring and floristic study. In addition, soil moisture is measured continuously, with probes whose data are periodically downloaded.
